Our Story

What started as an entrepreneurship project for ENTR 421 in the University of Nebraska College of Business has come to life as the premier throwing and strength training facility in Nebraska.

In 2023, Coach Kevin was in one of his final entrepreneurship courses where students got into groups and had to create a “business plan” . Kevin was selected to lead the group and the topic was to come up with two solutions to problems that you have. He came up with two ideas, a training facility designed for strength athletes and throwers, and an used motor recycling company. Kevin ended up selecting the motor oil recycling business idea instead. At the end of the class, Sam Nelson, head of Nebraska’s entrepreneurship department and professor for the course told Kevin that he really liked the training center idea and thought it was a great idea.

The following year Kevin’s capstone for his Masters of Applied Science program, he was able to submit a business plan to defend against a panel from their Applied Science department. Kevin saw this opportunity to go with his original idea to build a business plan for a throws/strength and conditioning facility in which he completed and defended successfully.

Why Throw Zone?

Once Coach Kevin was out of school, he was searching for a new hobby and came up with the idea of starting a podcast to try to grow the sport of throwing.

Originally the Podcast was supposed to be a sports center style show to promote NCAA meets and Pro meets, but after the first episode focused on advice and stories of throwers upbringing, the podcast turned into story telling with world class athletes sharing their story and advice.

From those stories and lessons were countless lessons and advice for athletes from Professionals, Olympians, All Americans, and National Champions that are implemented to our core values and training philosophy.
